The recent edition of this story has been around since April 27th and only tonight after the Drudge Report put a link to the National Enquirer story, did the news story gain some legs. I’m not sure when the original story was published on the N.E. website, but on April 27th at 8:18 p.m., @nlinton wrote the following tweet:

The next tweet that explicitly speaks about Obama cheating was the next afternoon. So this story has been around for 3 days before it started gaining traction. Thank you Matt Drudge. I should say, “Thank you National Enquirer.” After all, it’s nice to know some news organization will still do investigative reporting. Maybe they’ll get to ask a question at the next presidential press conference.Here’s the beginning of the National Enquirer’s article:

As for the identity of Vera Baker, it seems as if she helped Barack Obama raise millions of dollars for his 2004 senate campaign. She helped him get elected. She knew him when he was a nobody.
Vera Baker is thirty-six years old, born in San Fransisco in 1974 and raised there. At the age of 26, she and Muthoni Wambu began a fundraising firm named Baker Wambu & Associates. Baker’s firm became the largest fundraiser for the Congressional Black Caucus. The firm operated until 2005. Wambu went on to be Sen. Biden’s deputy political director for his presidential campaign.
Baker, after leaving political fundraising, went on to work on Wall Street with Alta Capital Group. She later began Cape Caribbean, LLC which has offices in the Caribbean island of Martinique.

The Zipline Conservative blog says the Hillary Clinton campaign did the background research on this scandal and were prepared to run with it before the Democratic convention. However, they didn’t have enough proof.
This is an almost six year old affair, if it did happen. The date was May 18, 2004. That’s a lot of water under the bridge. Even if it did happen, President Obama will say the two have reconciled. The national news media, which has had information about a possible affair, will say, leave him alone and America will. They’ll tell us we must forgive him just as Michelle has forgiven him.
Maybe they’d be right, but still, if he’s going to act like John F. Kennedy, could Obama at least cut our taxes across the board, like Kennedy did?
Let’s see what else turns up in the next few days. It will be interesting to hear what Rush Limbaugh has to say about this on Monday.
